Guidelines for Displaying Links in Attorney Web Design
First of all, in the world of attorney web design (and web design in general), there are two forms of links- text, and images. By far it is more advantageous to have text links as these can be read by the search engine, while links from images cannot.
To achieve the highest perceived clickability, your attorney web design should contain text links that are not only colored, but underlined as well. That is the standard, though there are some exceptions to these guidelines.
The advantage of text links that are both colored and underlined in attorney web design is that users won’t have to guess where they can click. The links will be easily discernable.
Assuming that the text link is colored, there are 2 main cases in which you can safely eliminate underlines.
Example 1:
Navigation menu
Example 2:
Other lists of links
On a great majority of attorney web design projects, there will be a left navigation menu with a list of links. Because most users will know (through experience) that these are generally links, it is not necessary to underline them.
When a link is embedded within a paragraph of copy in your attorney website, you will most definitely want to underline it. Otherwise, users may not realize that this is a link.
