Thinking of purchasing generic Efudex from Canada? PLEASE READ THIS!

I have been on Efudex for 10 days and I find it to be torturous. I could not sleep last night because of the itching and burning on my face. It hurts just to lay my face on the pillow. Some say it is worth the discomfort. I feel like such a big baby as I approach my 48th birthday. When the doctor showed me some pictures as to how my face would look after applying Efudex, I thought it would not be a big deal because he assumed that my reaction would be mild. (I discovered that Efudex is a topical chemotherapy medication! Who knew?) At times, I fancy myself to be a tough guy, but I am not as tough as I like to pretend. What is happening to my face from the Efudex is real and very noticeable to anyone within 25 feet of me. I find that I do not want to venture out into the community and interact with others. I want to isolate until the whole process is complete. I am grateful for the bravery of the folks that have illustrated their Efudex journey online. That makes me feel less unique and more hopeful. Another friend of mine says that the burning feeling from the Efudex will fade and the itching will come and go. I also have to be very aware of being in the sun-- exerting myself and/or being in the heat inflames the legions on my face. I look forward to the day when I can proudly display my beautiful new skin that will always have sunblock on it!

"I used the Efudex cream for two weeks as recommended (on my forehead, nose and upper lip), and by the end of the second week I was certainly experiencing all the classic symptoms of discomfort. I did not have Aquafor or Cortisone Cream at home, I didn't plan that very well, and had to make a rush visit to the drugstore when I looked my worst, which made a lot of people uncomfortable. The relief was immediate however. The burn and itch was much more manageable with these products. I did not treat my cheeks or chin with Efudex at all, I will save those for next time. At about 2.5 weeks my upper lip and nose were really bad, I thought I had a secondary infection, but the skin sloughed off after a couple more days and left a clean patch underneath which stayed red for months but healed nicely. After three weeks I was starting to mend, and now after six months the treated areas are still a little pink and sensitive to the sun, but the whole process was well worthwhile."

"I have started my Efudex treatment prescribed by my dermatologist. I am applying it to my face twice a day and my hands and arms for 6 weeks. Today is day 7 of my Efudex treatment, one more week of applying the cream to my face and 5 more weeks to my hands and arms. So far not bad, I am starting to get red in some spots on my face, but it is not that bad, I am still working. My arms have not really changed much so far, but I am not too worried about them, I figure I can cover them with long sleeve shirts while at work. I have found the cream to be very thick and hard to rub in. What I have found works best for me is to put it on and rub it in as good as I can then wait a few minutes then finish rubbing it in. The cream makes me look like I have sun screen or greasy lotion on. I am red headed and very white so I did not stand a chance."

"After seeing the pictures of the treatment I was quite prepared for my reaction to Efudex. Unfortunately it didn't heal up and the sore was eventually removed. Basel cell. I have had about 6 pieces cut out now. One other area I worked on with Efudex cleared up completely. I'm 55 years old. Have fair, freckly skin (parents were British)."

"I started Efudex on my face and forehead 12 days ago and HAD to stop on day 9. My physician says we will wait for the rawness to heal and then start the Efudex treatment again, but only one time per day and only 2 days per week. FOR 4 months. I became so swollen and oozie, scabbed and bleeding I could not continue. BRAVO for posting this information. Hopefully you will convince others to protect themselves from sun exposure."
